In Hebrews 7:16 the Old Testament law is called “the law of a carnal commandment.” In Hebrews 10:1, it says that the law had “a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things.” Hebrews 8:13 says, “In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.” AS long as you try to live under Moses’ law you end up in the tragic position of Paul before salvation in Romans 7 and fail to move into the Romans 8 life that makes you free from the law of sin and death as Romans 8:2 plainly states. The next verse there in Romans 8 also clarifies that the law was weak through the flesh, because it was carnal commandments, where the real law of moral actions was spiritual as we see in Romans 7:14.
“For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)
“But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.” (Hebrews 8:6)
“Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.” (Galatians 3:19)
“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” (Galatians 3:24-25)
